Last Sunday a number of Birdwell Wheelers rode in the annual Tom Simpson Memorial Ride. The event is in memory of Tom Simpson, Britain’s first ever road race World Champion, who sadly died on the slopes of Mont Ventoux in the 1967 Tour De France.
The 55 mile route started and finished in Harworth where Simpson’s cycling career started. Despite the promised sunny weather failing to materialise, on a cold and foggy day Dave Hudson, Chris Jenkins, Phil Adams, Austin Watson, Rob Parkes, John Woodhouse and Joe Woodhouse all finished in under 4 hours.

This Sunday’s ride is to Retford and visitors are welcome. Meet at Brewers Fayre roundabout Wombwell at 9am.
