19th March 2019
Sunday’s club run started with 13 riders but mechanical problems and poor weather reduced the numbers. Chris Jenkins, Marc Peasegood, Dave Hudson, Philip Stewart Adams, Robert Parkes, Tina Oakes, Rodger Holmes, Roger Bacon, Paul Mynett, Diane Barron, Sally Salter, Ken Redfern and Sue Winstanley set off from Brewers Fayre Wombwell heading to Lotherton.
Rodger and Paul turned off early and went to Oldcotes. Sally, Diane, Ken and Sue had to turn back after Diane suffered a broken derailleur hanger. Roger Bacon turned back with problems with his chain, leaving rest to go to Birkin because of flooded roads on the original route.
Club President Christine Minto rode a solo 50 mile loop to Blaxton to reconnoitre the course to be used for the club’s upcoming 25 mile time trial at Hatfield Woodhouse on April 6th.
This Sunday’s club run is to Tadcaster and visitors are welcome. Meet at Brewers Fayre at 9am. The day before on Saturday the club have organised a beginners’ ride starting from the same place. Meet at 9.30am. It will give newer riders the opportunity to learn how to ride in a group. Riders are advised to wear a helmet.
Also on Sunday Wheeler Trevor Mayne rode his first road race of the year in the La Fleche Walton south of Leicester. His lack of fitness unfortunately told as he was dropped by the bunch at the half way point.
