On Saturday Paul Heggie rode in the Common Lane Occasionals 10 mile Open time trial at Hatfield Woodhouse. On a day when the wind strengthened as time went on his time of 26m 14s placed him 19th out of 30 finishers and 5th out of 10 in his age group. It was also good enough for a club record at 66 years of age.
On Sunday Dave Scargill rode in the LVRC (League of Veteran Racing Cyclists-for over 40’s) St. Ives 50 mile Road Race near Huntingdon. On a day with strong head and cross winds three riders went away on the first lap of five. Scargill and three others bridged across on the 2nd lap and the seven got to the bell with lap one to go but were caught by the main bunch. In the final sprint Scargill finished 7th in his age group. In the same event Trevor Mayne was unfortunately brought down by another rider and the damage to his bike meant he was unable to continue.
Also on Sunday Dan Emery rode his 2nd Open hill climb of the year. On the short 570 metre climb of average gradient 12% near Scammonden Dam, where the gradient reaches 29% for a short distance, his time of 1m 55.1s placed him 28th overall and 10th in his age category.
The club’s Sunday ride saw Dave Hudson, Alan and Lucy Bullock, Roger Bacon, Chris Jenkins, Phil Adams and Austin Watson complete an 85 mile round trip to Tuxford.
The club ride this Sunday morning is to Wetherby meeting at 9am at Brewers Fayre roundabout Wombwell. Visitors are welcome.
